It's here, it's great and it's Not Over Yet!

A funky organ, a funky brass section, a steaming rhythm section, easily the best guitar player this part of the western hemisphere (okay, not counting Jan Akkerman) and the most soulful smokey singer you have ever heard. All of that and gorgeously crafted songs, a lot of soul and passion. That's the new album Not Over Yet by fusion veterans Back to Basic. It was released yesterday, June 25th. For me this is no doubt the best album Back to Basic has ever released. And that's saying a lot. I suggest you install Equalizer APO , plug in your earphones and have a listen: The album is available on many music platforms, including YouTube (see above) and Spotify and can be purchased via Amazon , among others. For me this is no doubt the best album Back to Basic has ever released. And that's saying a lot. Review Honestly, what's not to like? Admittedly, to some young folks out there the band's members may look like old rockers. And I guess they are that too

Blogger Tutorial: the best SEO title tag

This article explains how to change the code in your Blogger theme to display an SEO-friendly title for your site. Like the title says, this is an article about the title tag in Blogger, not about SEO-friendly titles per se. Since I am not an SEO expert I urge you to read the article ' How to craft great page titles for SEO ' on Yoast.com, which deals with how to compose a good title. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has become somewhat of a science. If you have a company or if you are responsible for a company's marketing or the maintenance of its website, it really pays off to hire an SEO expert. As far as Content Management Systems are concerned, you are at an advantage when you work with WordPress and its myriad of plugins, Yoast being the best known, that can assist in optimizing your website for search engines. If you don't want to read this article in full, but wish to jump to the instructions on how to change the code for the title tag in Blogger, plea

Band Back to Basic

Back to Basic is a band originally from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, who play groovy soulful rock-inspired music. They've been around since 1993, which is also when I first saw them play. The last time I saw them play was in 2008 at their fifteenth anniversary reunion, also in Rotterdam. Since then, it has been quiet around the band. Too quiet. Yesterday I sort of stumbled over them at a local festival in their original home town. And again, sparks were splashing. The band were obviously having fun and the music was still top notch. New album 'Not Over Yet' I was happy to learn they recently finished recording a new album, aptly titled 'Not Over Yet', which will be released on Tuesday, June 25th * . It can be heard live on Sunday, June 30 2019 at the Facet Jazz Festival Hillegersberg , where the band will be playing on Stage 1 at 3pm. 'Not Over Yet' is the title of the new album by fusion veterans Back to Basic. Album launch: June 25th 2019 * EDI

Tutorial: write your own user style - pt. 2

Now that you had some time to brush up on your HTML and CSS skills and to install Stylus into your browser, it's time to go on to the serious - and fun! - stuff. This is part two of a series on how to start writing your own user style. The first part can be found here . How to start writing your own user style To know which elements of a page to change in order to apply your own style, you need to be able to examine the code of a page. These days, all modern browsers have developers tools built in, which can be used to determine which elements to change. You may ask yourself where you can find these tools and how to activate them. You may never have seen them before, but they are only two mouse clicks away: Point your mouse cursor to any element on this page. This can be the title, an image, the menu or anything else that the page is displaying, Now click your right mouse button. Every browser has its own menu here, but down towards the bottom of the menu there should be s

Tip: shortcuts in Windows 10

What is a pc without a mouse these days? Exactly: unusable! Or maybe not quite? Sometimes it's actually easier to work with your keyboard. You can perform quite a few actions with your keyboard shortcuts that you would expect to need a mouse for. Here's an overview of available key combinations in Windows 10. The Windows 10 logo - - represents the Windows key on your keyboard: + A - Open notification center + B followed by Enter - Display hidden icons + D - Toggle (display and hide) desktop + E - Open Windows Explorer (file manager) + F - Open Windows Feedback-hub + G - Game bar/screenrecorder + K - Connect PC to wireless devices + L - Lock your PC + M - Minimize all windows + P - Screen projection + Q - Open Windows Search bar + R - Run Program + S - Search Program     type program name and press Enter -OR-     press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open the app as admin + T - Focus on Taskbar + U - (Screen) Settings + W - Windows Ink Workspace + X

Goodbye Minoes...

Minoes (pronounced as mĭnū·s with emphasis on the second syllable: she was very picky about that) was my furry four-pawed friend for 15 years. Today she died. I'm sad.  Minoes I'll miss how she spilled puddles of water all over the floor because her water bowl was never at the right spot. I'll miss how she woke me up in the morning by jumping on my gut. I'll miss how she courageously went about life and overcame her fears. I'll miss her. Meow!

Tutorial: write your own user style - pt. 1

Do not read beyond this line if you don't like puzzles and think you are not creative. You have been warned! And just to be on the safe side: you may hate me for writing this tutorial at first, but you will probably be happy I did if you make it to the end! Do not read beyond this line if you don't like puzzles and if (you think) you're not creative... Still here? Good, let's get on with it then... What is a user style? User styles let you change the way your browser displays web pages. Or better put: with user styles you can change the design of the elements of a web page. This is done by finding existing elements - selectors, IDs, classes - in the HTML code of a web page, defining your own properties and values for these elements in new CSS rules, and applying these rules to the page with an external style sheet using a browser extension like Stylus. With a user style you can enhance a page, accentuate certain parts of a page or even completely darken a pag

Best music software you (n)ever knew

Ultimately, it's not money that makes the world go 'round. It's music! From the first music I ever bought (a greatest hits album by Golden Earring on ... wait for it: cassette tape!) to hard-rock, disco, classical music, funk, soul, latin, jazz, blues and so much more, I have always enjoyed music. I have some 500 albums on vinyl and some 700 on cd. I know it's not the largest collection of music by far, but it's dear to me and holds many memories. Whether precious or painful, they're part of my life and always will be. Last year I started considering the possibility to digitize my music collection. Even with 'only' 1200 albums it looked like a daunting task. With most cd's it was easy enough to do. Some cd's had copy protection though. Also, I don't own a USB record player, so digitizing my vinyl albums was going to be a challenge. In this post I will share with you the seven software applications I used to make the process a little les

User style: 1973 prism, the Dark Side of Stylus

After the previous dark theme for Stylus was published, I was left feeling a little unsatisfied with the result. I thought I could do better, but didn't have the inspiration. That inspiration came to me as I listened to the 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, while checking out how to use PrismJS to display code on Blogger. It suddenly hit me: 1973 prism, the Dark Side of Stylus was born... Features This new Stylus theme is dark, but more elegant than the previous theme for Stylus that I did, and shows colourful accents in both the edit style page and the styles management page. It is also more complete in that settings, options, export and information screens have been darkened as well. So no more sudden painful experiences for your eyes when opening a bright submenu or a popup screen in the middle of the night! The theme displays a clear visual identifier on top of a code block to indicate that code has been modified. 1973 prism, the Dark Side of Stylus: edit p

User style: Gmail Notes by cloudHQ

As I wrote in a previous article: I'm a big fan of cloudHQ's collection of Gmail addons. Gmail Notes by cloudHQ is one of a handful of addons that I find myself using frequently. Now it looks even better... With Gmail Notes you can add one or more notes to an email. The clever thing about this addon is that notes are saved in your mail, not in a separate database. Therefore, notes are searchable with the default Gmail search interface. ...notes are saved in your mail, not in a separate database. A word about privacy To achieve this, obviously, the mail is downloaded to cloudHQ's servers and manipulated to include the note. It's good to be conscious about privacy, so before you put your trust in their hands, you may want to know that cloudHQ is situated in the San Francisco Bay Area in the USA. You can check the Whois Record for CloudHq.net yourself at whois.domaintools.com: Whois Record for CloudHq.net Since cloudHQ works with data that is of vital importance to
